The 2018 United Jewish Appeal Kick-Off Brunch

Sunday, October 14 ♦ 11:00 a.m. ♦ Jewish Community Center Auditorium

This year’s brunch will include rolled lox, sliced bagels with onion, tomatoes and capers, white fish salad, grilled vegetables, quiche and grilled salmon.  Fruit salad and assorted beverages are also included.

Guest Speaker: Hen Mazzig

Hen Mazzig is an Israeli writer, international speaker, social media activist and advocate.  His family came to Israel from Iraq and North Africa.  As a young Israeli, Hen spent five years in the IDF as an openly gay commander. During his service, he worked in the COGAT unit as an intermediary between the IDF, the Palestinian Authority, the UN and many NGO’s that work in the West Bank.  From 2013-2015, Hen was the Campus Coordinator for “Standwithus,” during which he fought BDS on college campuses and in communities.

His award winning articles can be found in Ha’aretz, the Jerusalem Post, Times of Israel and more.  He has shared his story and opinions with thousands of students throughout the USA, Canada and UK. Hen has a proven track record of creating dialogue where it seems impossible.  He has built relationships and changed hearts and minds by being a voice for justice and peace for diverse groups of peoples.  Hen was recently named one of The Top 100 People Positively Influencing Jewish Life For 2018 by the publication, “Algemeiner.” He will be discussing the current relationship between Israeli and Diaspora Jews.
