Dinner-Movie Night begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12, in the J.C.C. library with dinner from Pumpernickel’s: tuna and egg salad wraps, coleslaw and chips, plus fruit, beverages and dessert. After dinner, watch “The Pawnbroker. “In this powerful two-hour film, directed by Sidney Lumet and based on Edward Wallant’s novel, Oscar-nominated actor Rod Steiger plays Sol Nazerman, a survivor of a concentration camp in which his wife, children and parents were murdered. His soul robbed of hope, Nazerman takes refuge in misery and a bitter condemnation of humanity while managing a Harlem pawnshop visited by an endless parade of prostitutes, pimps and thieves.
