First-Run Feature Film “The Samuel Project” on March 17

On Sunday, March 17, at 5 p.m., the J.C.C. will host a special showing of the first run motion picture “The Samuel Project.” This highly acclaimed 92-minute film, shot in San Diego, CA, stars Disney actor Ryan Ochoa (“A Christmas Carol” and “A Pair of Kings”), and multiple Emmy and Tony award winner Hal Linden (T.V.’s Barney Miller and Broadway’s “The Rothchilds”).

This comedic drama is about a teenager (Ryan Ochoa), who gets to know his grandfather Samuel (Hal Linden) for the first time when he makes him the subject of a senior art project. With dreams of becoming a professional artist, the teen discovers that his Jewish grandpa, a dry cleaner, was heroically saved as a boy from Nazi capture in Germany by a young woman. After hesitating, Samuel finally agrees to tell his story for the project — a story he hasn’t told in over 75 years. Eli’s story makes the finals in a countywide art showcase where he unveils his animated short “The Samuel Project” with the help of his unlikely friend Kasim, an electric guitar-wielding school misfit. After decades, three generations of Eli’s family finally connect with one another.

Tickets for this special evening are $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers. Light refreshments will be served. Reservations are due by Wednesday, March 13. For reservations and further information, please call the J.C.C. at (315) 733-2343.
