Book Rap will meet on Monday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. in the J.C.C. library. We will discuss John Irving’s novel “Queen Esther.”After 40 years, Irving returns to the world of his classic novel “The Cider House Rules,” revisiting the orphanage in St. Cloud’s, Maine, where Dr. Wilbur Larch takes in Esther, an orphaned Viennese-born Jew whose life is shaped by anti-Semitism.The book is a story of survival and an exploration of coming of age, belonging, identity and the enduring impact of history on our personal lives.This novel is available in area libraries and in paperback. Readers are welcome to attend monthly book discussions. Admission is free for center members and $5 per discussion for nonmembers.
