THE ANNUAL HELEN AND LEON SPERLING HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL LECTURE

Held on or around Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Memorial Day) in April or May, this annual event helps the community remember and memorialize the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust.

The committee is pleased to welcome Dave Reckess who will not only tell his grandmother’s
story but relate how it has affected him.
Dave is President of 3GNY (Third Generation of Holocaust Survivors in New York), a non-profit
organization.
As a living link they preserve the legacies and lessons of the Holocaust. Their mission is to
educate diverse communities about the perils of intolerance, as well as provide a supportive
forum for the descendants of survivors.
This free program is particularly timely and open to everyone. Please consider bringing students
of middle and high school age, your friends and neighbors.

THE ANNUAL SPAC BALLET BUS TRIP

Every year, in July, a group of people, both members and non-members, take a trip out to Saratoga to see the SPAC Ballet. It is always a wonderful event.  Tickets prices vary.  If you would like more information on this year’s event click here or give us a call at (315) 733-2343.

ISRAELI SCOUTS

This annual visit and performance of the Israeli Scouts is brought to Utica by the Robert and Sara Smith Fund. There is no charge for this event and dinner is at 6 p.m.. Since 1953, the Israel Boy and Girl Scout Federation has led a generation of young people who follow the principles laid out by Lord Baden Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement. Today this group is the only non-political youth movement in Israel and is supported mainly by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Tzofim Friendship Caravan of the Israeli Scouts has been sending a group to Central New York since 1985.

YOM HA’ATZMAUT CELEBRATION AND WALK

Every year, Temple Emanu-ElTemple Beth El, Zvi Jacob and our local Jewish Federation sponsor the annual “Walk for Israel.”  The walk will begin in the J.C.C. parking lot, continue for three quarters of a mile through the residential community on the west side of Oneida Street and finish at the J.C.C.  The purpose of the walk is to show our support for and solidarity with Israel and her people.  Bring your children, parents and friends to help make this walk as special and enjoyable as the past years.  Immediately following the walk, the J.C.C. hosts a dinner to celebrate Israel Independence Day.
