2017 United Jewish Appeal Holds Kickoff Event Sept. 17

The Jewish Community Federation of the Mohawk Valley will be hosting our Annual UJA Kickoff Event on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 12:15 p.m. in the J.C.C. auditorium. This year’s event will feature a beautiful brunch buffet, including rolled lox and sliced bagels with onion, tomatoes and capers, white fish salad, grilled vegetables, feta-spinach and roasted pepper quiche and grilled salmon with sour cream dill sauce. There will also be a beverage station with iced tea and assorted juices, fruit salad and other brunch favorites.

Guest Speaker: Neil Rubin Ph.D.

Dr. Neil Rubin is the chair of the Department of Jewish History at Beth Tefiloh’s Dahan High School, just outside of Baltimore, Maryland. He is also an instructor at Towson State University, where he teaches courses on the History of Jewish Nationalism and Zionism. Rubin also spent 13 years as a senior editor at the Baltimore Jewish Times, a popular Jewish weekly.

Dr. Rubin received his Ph.D., in Modern Jewish History from The Baltimore Hebrew University in 2010. He wrote the book “American Jewry and the Oslo Years.” (Palgrave-McMillan, 2012) He will speak to the following issues: 1)Behind the Headlines: What the news from Israel really means, and 2) Anti-Semitism, Anti-Zionism, BDS and What Really Matters?
